Hi Guys,
We have a project proposal due Friday (9/24). I wanted to go ahead and start a dialog about how to accomplish this and who is doing what. I'm happy to post our discussions as the next blog post. Due to the fact that we are all in different time zones we may have to use email as our communication forum. If we all pitch in we can get this done. I believe it is just a summary of what we going to do with our report. Ms. Mann emailed to us what the report should look like and contain. Please let me know if ya'll didn't get that and I can forward it to you. It seems like if we all take a task on then combine our findings we can get this done fairly easily. I am moving homes this week and have a lot going on so I'd ideally like to be able to get a head start on this proposal. Your quick responses will help with that.

So Sorry I haven't replied yet. It's been a busy week, so I've just now been able to look at everything. I'll post on the blog and email after I've study over it today. Honestly I'm still unsure how to go about this. I've read over the instructions several times and it still seems a little vague to me. Are we each suppose to write a portion of the proposal or do we collaborate information and then each individual writes their own proposal from the gathered information. I know we post it to turnitin.com come so we each have to turn something in right? Sorry if these are dumb questions or have already been answered, I've lost or accidentally deleted some of my emails, but this assignment is worth a lot of points so I just want to be sure

It is just a proposal that is due Friday. I don't want to end up writing the whole thing myself, this is supposed to be a group project. So we need to decide what we are going to do - Ronald your idea was great but we just need an overview of what each person is going to do and how we are going to coordinate it for the final project. I will write the proposal, but I need like a paragraph from each person telling me what they plan to do i.e., go over budget examples...etc. If I don't get anything from ya'll by tomorrow I can't do anything. I am moving this weekend and will no longer have internet access Friday. I need more from ya'll.

Ok, so the proposal will just include who is doing what? And we each write a paragraph about what we parts we are researching for the report and that will be what the proposal is composed of? Like I said, it all seems a little vague to me and I just want to make sure I'm going about it the right way.

Hi Ruth,
Thanks for getting back to me. The assignment is vague, I agree. For the proposal, we just turn one in for the group. It is only a one-page summary of our "action plan." I was thinking a good and organized way to go about that is to just have everyone write what part of the assignment they plan on doing - basically look at the case and the email that I posted on the blog from the instructor and determine which part you would like to take on. Then, write a paragraph about what you are going to do to contribute. I am used to these kind of proposals as I have to do them for work all the time. I am happy to write the proposal (what is do on Fri) if everyone gets me the information in time. As I said I must have everything tonight because I have to finish it tomorrow to get it posted before I loose internet service. Hopefully we can get it in. Still have not heard anything from Cindy.

My apologies for not responding before now. Had a big test in one of my other online classes that has been occupying my time. I had indicated that I would look at the 5 year plan. That, however, would be a good idea if I could find a copy of it on the website. If anyone has any idea where to look, please send me the link. I will dig a little deeper after I send this email. Again, I apologize.

Ok, I just typed this for the group proposal. I hope this is what you meant was needed for the proposal, if not just tell me because I have homework to finish up tonight so I will be online for a couple of more tonight, it's 10 here so probably till midnight.

For our group project report, I am studying the 60 recommendations for cut and merges made by The President’s Select Committee on Efficiencies and Innovations. I will be examine the website that is set-up specifically for the recommendations made by the committee. Afterwards, I will contact my group members to discuss my findings. After researching the proposed cuts and merges, I plan to choose several options of cuts and merges I feel that are the most pertinent to discuss with the rest of my group through our blog and e-mail. Collaboration will be essential since the University budget and 5-year plan will be the major factors in making the decision as to which cut will be made. During my research, I will be looking for functional options that allow the University to allocate the budget with the lowest opportunity cost after the cut or merge happens.

5 year plan is great, I'm sure it doesn't necessarily have to be MSU's 5 year plan you can probably just google it. If you don't find it tonight don't stress, you can probably just assemble a paragraph based on what you would do with the 5 year plan (see Ruth's example). Good luck, I'm looking forward to your paragraph.

Here is my portion for the group project:
For my portion of the group project, I will be studying the 5-year plan of MSU. I will gather information from the MSU Budget Office website from past, present, and future budgets to help determine areas that budget cuts can be made so as to not deter from the mission of MSU. Also, I will review MSU President Keenum's August 2010 Report to obtain updated financial outlook information. The information obtained will be collaborated with other group members to provide optimum recommendations for budget cuts for the university.

I am looking at the universities 2010 final operating budget. I am looking at ways to save the university money on a short term. I also will be going over the 2010 operating budget to locate any opportunity to recoup funds that may not be used efficiently.
